Attitudes That Keep You Prisoner

Worry-Stressed-Overwhelmed

In the midst of great anxiety, how are we to respond? Our assurance is that God has given us in His Word. Christians are not to dismiss or ignore our worries, but we are to cast our anxiety on Christ, knowing that He cares for us personally.
1 Peter 5:7
7 Give all your worries to Him because He cares for you.
Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." —
Mark 4:35-41
35 It was evening of that same day. Jesus said to them, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 After sending the people away, they took Jesus with them in a boat. It was the same boat He used when He taught them. Other little boats went along with them. 37 A bad wind storm came up. The waves were coming over the side of the boat. It was filling up with water. 38 Jesus was in the back part of the boat sleeping on a pillow. They woke Him up, crying out, “Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die?” 39 He got up and spoke sharp words to the wind. He said to the sea, “Be quiet! Be still.” At once the wind stopped blowing. There were no more waves. 40 He said to His followers, “Why are you so full of fear? Do you not have faith?” 41 They were very much afraid and said to each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him!”

Jesus’ calming of the storm demonstrated that He is the ruler of all nature. There’s more to the story, though. The disciples were not in their predicament because they made foolish choices, but because they obeyed Christ, when God leads His people into storms, He goes with us. Instead of allowing trials to separate us from the assurance of God’s love, then, we can let life’s tempests drive us to greater dependence on Him.

(1 Peter 5:7)
Meditate on this verse(s). Continue with the next passage until all passages are completed. It is imperative that you allow the Holy Spirit to confront us with our sinful attitudes and character flaws, and that we take responsibility for our behavior without making excuses. This requires looking honestly at the intentions of our hearts if we are to allow God to work in these areas. Ask the Lord to reveal the truth behind these attitudes. Our hearts are deceitful and we will try to hide the true reasons behind these behaviors. Be sure to write down any revelations of the Holy Spirit, especially where they come from.
