One of the biggest ways other believers help you is in praying for you. I (Mel) used to read Paul's request for prayer for boldness in Ephesians 6:18—20 and think, Why did Paul need to ask the church to pray for his boldness? He's the most courageous missionary who ever walked the earth! Then it dawned on me: Maybe that's exactly why he was so courageous. Other people were asking God to make him bold. The Holy Spirit puts you into the lives of God's people, and He moves all of you together toward maturity in Christ. After all, didn't Jesus Himself have men around Him? It's true they were just frail men stumbling along, but Jesus wanted them by His side. And in His darkest moment, He chose to take some of them to Gethsemane, where His soul was grieved unto death. He wanted them to be there and to pray. So don't be a spiritual maverick. Let the Holy Spirit shape your life through others in the body of Christ.
