RAISING IT TO A HIGHER POWER

Read It: 1 Samuel 17:38-49
Let me give you one more principle about the power of commitment. It's in verse 40. David chose five stones because Goliath apparently had four brothers or four sons (see 2 Samuel 21:22; 1 Chronicles 20:5). David was ready to take on the whole family if necessary, because they were messing with God. Here is the principle: Believing God doesn't mean you do nothing. What it means is that as you step out for Him, God infiltrates and takes what you can do and does the miraculous with it. See, people who tell you, "I'm just going to sit here and trust God," don't understand what it means to trust God. But God didn't give you the abilities you have so you could sit on them while He becomes your heavenly enly genie. He gave you your abilities so that He could infuse them with His power and then use them to perform miracles. What you must do is meet your spiritual responsibility. You must think with the mind of Christ and act on your commitment. This is not the twisted theology that says, "God helps those who help themselves," or, "Name it and claim it, because then God has to do it." No, no. God is the One doing all the empowering. Now when you decide to step out for God the way David did, there will always be a giant around to do a little `woofing" with you. Goliath did some serious woofing with David.

Here comes this little kid with a slingshot, so Goliath starts needling him. "Do I look like Fido to you, brother? Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks?" And he cussed David out. Well now, we've already learned this week that David was kind of bad too. So he said, "Okay, we'll do some woofing before we get down." 
He gave it right back to Goliath, but David wasn't just talking tough. David could talk tough because Goliath was making fun of the true God. David was there as God's representative to hold up His interests in that mess. Whose interests are you looking out for today, yours or God's? Think About It God wants to infuse your life and raise the power of your power to an infinitely higher power.
