"He who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no man. "

1 Corinthians 2:15
HOW'S YOUR THINKING?

Read It: Genesis 13:1-18
If you read the suggested Scripture passage for today, you might think we forgot the topic at hand. No, actually I wanted you to see the process we've been talking about fleshed out in real life. The story of Abram and Lot and the choices they made regarding the land is a great example of the principle Paul enunciates in 1 Corinthians 2:15. Abram (still his name at this stage in his life) is the classic example of a spiritual man, and this account is a classic example of a spiritual man appraising-sifting, processing, understanding-a major decision from a spiritual mind-set. Abram exhibits the mind of Christ. You may remember the story. Abram and Lot were both wealthy men whose herds grew so large they couldn't occupy the same space. Their servants started fighting, so Abram offered Lot the opportunity to take first choice of the available land. Now what's interesting here is that Abram was the older man and had the larger herds. He could have insisted on first choice. But what did he do? He used a thought process just like the one Jesus Christ used centuries turies later in His earthly life and death.

That is, Abram did not simply look out for his own interests, but for the interests of others (see Philippians 2:4), in this case his relative Lot. Abram appraised the situation tion from a spiritual perspective-and I have no doubt that Lot didn't understand Abram's thinking. The spiritual person understands all things, Paul says, but nobody can figure him out because he doesn't act "normal." So Lot made the choice that took him toward Sodom, and today you won't find anything left of Lot's land but ashes. But Abraham's land is still around. You can even visit it if you wish. The point is, the problem was not money. The problem was perspective. tive. Lot wanted to settle down in close proximity to the world, and the world devoured him. In fact, I believe that even if Lot had made the opposite site choice, Abram wouldn't have headed toward Sodom, because he knew it was bad news. He saw with spiritual eyes and thought with a spiritual mind. What about you? Think About It Is your thinking spiritual ... or predictable?
