OUR ARCHENEMY

If you're going to get out from under your circumstances and live in spiritual  victory, you'll have to become proficient in spiritual warfare. Let's look at Christ's power over the forces of hell. Spiritual warfare started when the Devil challenged the authority of God in heaven and led his coup d'etat. Satan's influence must have been enormous, because one-third of the angels followed him (Revelation 12:4). These fallen angels came to be known as demons or unclean spirits. its. They are the Devil's army, his foot soldiers. They are the denizens of hell, a place created with the express purpose of being the eternal prison for Satan and his angels. What Satan has done is emulate heaven in creating an organizational structure-a demonic government, if you will-whose job it is to carry out hell's agenda in thwarting the program of God. Our battle is against this government of demons. The words Paul uses to describe hell's hierarchy are governmental words lifted right out of the ruling Roman regime. "Rulers" refers to those demonic princes who guide the affairs of the satanic realm. "Powers" execute Satan's program. Under them are the "forces" of darkness, the workhorses, the lieutenants and sergeants who make sure those programs are properly implemented. Finally there are the wicked spirits, the privates who go out and take the marching orders to the field of battle. When you became a Christian, you became a target. 

All of mankind is targeted, because the Bible says that "the whole world lies in the power of the evil one" (1 John 5:19). His government is all over the place. But let's not give Satan more power than he possesses. Unlike God, Satan is not omnipotent or omniscient. He's more powerful than any human being or the whole race collectively, but not as powerful as God. Because demons exist, they can only be addressed by the authority of Christ. That is, because our warfare is in a spiritual realm, it can only be won by wielding spiritual power. Think About It Actually, the only real power demons have over you and me is the power we give them by yielding to temptation.
