"Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

John 1:29
COME AND SEE
Read It: John 1:29-39
One thing that should mark every disciple of Jesus Christ is a burning desire to tell others His story. Show me a Christian who isn't witnessing, nessing, and I'll show you a Christian who doesn't understand what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. That's why I love the latter part of John 1. There are disciples all over the place, and they are doing what learners and followers are supposed to be doing. They are learning who Jesus is, they are following Him, and they are bringing others to Him. John the Baptist got things rolling with his unique witness. John was such a dynamic figure that he had his own disciples (v. 35), but that was just temporary. He was a disciple of Jesus himself. So when he saw Jesus, John did just what a disciple should do. He gave witness to Jesus as the Lamb of God, the long-awaited sacrifice that would not just cover sin, but take it away. A preacher only does his job when people follow Jesus. So the next day the same thing happened again. This time two of John's disciples were there and took off after Jesus (vv. 35-37). John understood. He didn't say, "Behold me. I'm John the Baptist." He pointed to Jesus. John was a good disciple-maker because his disciples followed Jesus. We know that one of these two disciples was Andrew, who, as we'll see this week, became the link to Peter and several other disciples who became apostles. Notice that Andrew made the right move for a disciple too. He started following Jesus. Jesus turned around and saw that Andrew and his companion had taken the first step.

They were following ing Him. So Jesus asked, "What do you seek?" (v 38). In other words, "What can I do for you? How can I help you?" That's the greatest question anyone could ever be asked. Imagine Jesus asking you what you need. Here the two disciples wanted to know where He was going so they could follow Him. Underline in your Bible Jesus' response: "Come and you will see." We're going to hear that repeated a lot this week. Think About It The duty of a disciple isn't real complicated. We just tell people where they can find Jesus; then we lead them to Him.
