"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable ... for every good work. "
2 Timothy 3:16-17
GOOD THINGS vs. GOOD WORKS
Read It: Matthew 5:16; Ephesians 2:10
The way you verify your words is by your works. Biblically speaking, good works are not the same as good things. Sinners can do good things. Lost people can build hospitals and orphanages and feed the poor. But sinners cannot do good works. So what's the difference? Good works are God-created, God-inspired works. Good works can help transform society because they have the power of God behind them. So somebody had better be asking where we can find God-created, God-inspired inspired works. The answer is in His Word. That's what Paul told Timothy. That's what separates us from the world. We not only have biblical goals, but we also use biblical means to achieve them. And as Jesus said, the aim of all good works is to glorify God. There are plenty of good things sinners do without even giving the slightest thought to what God thinks about it. Now when Paul wrote this, the New Testament wasn't even completed yet. Today we have the full revelation of God, the Old and New Testaments. We have God's mind on every issue, which explains my philosophy losophy of ministry. I believe there is a biblical answer for everything.
Now some people don't like that; some people don't want to hear that, but there is a biblical answer for everything we face in life. See, if you came to me and asked how you could glorify God by doing good works that please Him, I would open my Bible to give you an answer. If the elders and deacons at my church came to me and asked, "What work should this church be about?" I would open my Bible and show them what God has called the church to do. By the way, I would do the same thing if the president said to me, "We've got a messed-up country. What should we do?" I would go to the same standard. If you want works that are going to truly transform society, you go to the Word. The word glom means to show off. We're supposed to show God off. Don't apologize for being a Christian. No one else is apologizing. Homosexuals aren't. Racists aren't. If they can go public, so can we. Think About It How are your neighborhood, your town, and your kids' school different because you are around?
