How big is your bank account today? You probably have a pretty accurate rate idea of how much you have in savings and investments. But my question doesn't have to do with the funds you may have on deposit at First National or First Federal or wherever. I'm talking about the vaults of heaven, your spiritual bank account. We've come halfway through our series on biblical stewardship, and we're learning that God is intensely interested in how you and I handle His resources. He wants us to invest our earthly goods in building His kingdom, dom, thus accruing glory to Him and spiritual wealth for ourselves. The key word here is invest. No bank is going to put money into your account for you if you fail to do so. You have to deposit or invest your money in that account before you will draw any interest on it. Many Christians are like the poor country preacher. As he came to church one day with his little boy, he stopped and dropped two quarters into the collection box, hoping to stimulate church members to give. After the service the preacher went to the box, opened it, and found only his two quarters. He was fussing about the poor offering when his son piped up, 'Well, Dad, looks like if you'd put more in, you'd have got more out!" That's where many of God's people are. We aren't putting that much into our heavenly accounts. Then we wonder why God doesn't give us a better return. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus says the problem with money-and and the solution-is in the heart.
What Jesus is saying in this crucial passage is that your heart always follows your money. Now we would have said it the other way, because it seems as if your money would follow your heart. That is, what you love you'll spend your money on. But Jesus reversed it because He understood the power of money. He said what you spend money on or invest money in, you will come to love. That one takes a minute to sink in, so think about it today. How much kingdom investing have you been doing lately? Think About It The reason God doesn't have some people's wallets is because He doesn't have their hearts.
