"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. "
Philippians 4:13
"CAN-DO" SPIRIT
Read It: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; 5:4 I serve as chaplain for the Dallas Mavericks, our National Basketball Association team. One time I was there doing some shooting by myself, and I was making everything. Then one of the Mavericks started guarding ing me, and suddenly I wasn't making anything. The difference was a six-foot-five obstacle in my face, keeping me from achieving my goal. I think you get the point. The test of a marriage is not the honeymoon. It's not the times when the house is nice, the money is coming in, and the kids are bringing home all As. It doesn't take much to be happy under those conditions. But when the winds of opposition blow, and the flame starts to flicker, our tendency is to back off. It's when your mate has grown a little cold and the passion has died that your commitment to your marriage needs to be at its strongest. When you got married, you made a vow to the Lord. You may not have understood that when you got married, but if you're a Christian, I hope you have come to that understanding. Now you may be looking at your marriage and saying, "This isn't what I thought it would be. It's getting tough in here. I'm not sure I want to continue with the game." If this describes you, I have good news. You can not only stay in there, you can turn the game around. How?
By deciding that you will apply to your marriage the same commitment and "can-do" spirit you put forth in areas such as your work. For instance, it's amazing to me how many men will go for it at work, do whatever it takes to succeed, but won't bring that spirit home. I'm talking ing about a spirit that says, "I'm going to make my marriage better. I'm going to take God's principles and put them to work and love my wife with His kind of love and light a new flame in my marriage." I don't mean just working up enthusiasm or doing "self-talk." A Christian marriage has a third Partner in it, Jesus Christ. He's for you and your mate, and He can help you rekindle the flame. Just ask Him and see. Think About It Anyone can look good when there's no opposition. That's not the test of what you're made of.
