NAME THAT CREATURE
Read It: Genesis 2:19-20; Ephesians 5:28-30
So Adam's already got a full-time job tending the Garden of Eden (v. 15). Then God says, `Adam, I want you to do something else. I want you to name all the animals." Now it doesn't look as if naming the animals has anything to do with getting Adam a wife, but he hasn't heard about woman yet anyway, so he says, "Fine. I'll give it my best." So the parade starts, and Adam gives everything a name. That's good. Got to call those animals something. But God is preparing Adam for something thing bigger than a degree in zoology. As Adam is doing his thing, he notices that when the gorilla comes by for his name, there's another gorilla on his arm, laughing at his jokes and smiling pretty. When Adam names the bull and the cow, he notices that old bull looking cross-eyed at the cow For the he zebra, there was a she zebra. You get the idea. Every creature had a suitable partner. Except Adam. He didn't see anyone who could fulfill his need for a helper.
The gorilla didn't do anything for him. He knew the zebra had nothing he needed. Adam knew he needed a suitable partner, and he knew he wouldn't find such a creature in the animal kingdom. Young lady, if you're dating a guy who says to you, "I don't need you," watch it! Think twice about marrying him, because the whole point of creating Eve was that Adam needed her. He couldn't make it by himself. My man, do you know what that means? It means a woman is not a nice addition to your life. She's not an adornment on your arm when you go out, someone to make you look and feel good. Until a man can say to a woman, "I love you, and I need you. I can't make it without you. I don't even want to try to make it without you," he's not ready to get married. A woman needs the security of knowing that she's marrying a man who needs her, who cherishes her, who has no intention of ever living without out her again, till death do them part. That's doing marriage God's way. Think About It Once Adam realized there was no one around for him, he was ready to sign the divine "surgery consent" form!
