"Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. "
Romans 4:3
LOOKING FOR A CITY
Read It: Genesis 11:27-12:4; Hebrews 11:8-10 oday begins the second week of our series on faith. This week we'll see that people of faith live in anticipation of God's promises. Suppose the doctor told you you had an incurable disease and had only twelve months to live. I suspect your anticipation of death would greatly alter your life, beginning today. You might start rebuilding broken relationships. You would probably start going places you'd always wanted to see and doing important things you had put off. You would get your personal and financial affairs in order, because there's something about the knowledge of the future that has great impact on the present. That's how people of faith live. They are able to see God in their tomorrow row and live in light of that in their today. In fact, the anticipation of faith was enough to cause a resident of a sophisticated city to slap a For Sale sign in the yard and head to a desert for a sweaty existence in a hot tent! I want to show you something about this man called Abraham, the "father of the faithful." Notice that Abraham immediately obeys God's Word when it is revealed.
Hebrews 11:8 literally reads, "While he was being called, he obeyed." To put it another way, as soon as Abraham hears God's voice, he begins packing. And remember, Abraham doesn't find out where he's going until he obeys the command to go. Until you do the little that God has told you to do, He won't show you the more you are praying about. Many people want to know the back end result before they do the little tle thing God has commanded them to do on the front end. But God only hits a moving target, and if you are not moving, you will never know where you are supposed to be going. Abraham obeyed. God was calling him to a new world and a new way of life, and Abraham got up and went. You have been called out of an old way of living, thinking, and acting into a new way of living, thinking, and acting called the walk of faith. How is yours going today? Think About It It's only when we faithfully obey what God has clearly revealed to us that He reveals the unclear areas.
