The Power Of Thanks

MATTHEW 6:10
Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

The gift of life cannot be fully enjoyed until it is given and received as a gift. Some people act as though they could snatch life from God’s hands or steal it while He isn’t looking. They don’t want the gift; they want ownership. But God can’t be fooled. He wants to give us life and to stay in our lives as an essential part of the gift. He also wants us to be thankful for the life He gives. We can refuse the gift if we don’t like the terms, but there are no other terms on which we can beg, borrow, steal, or buy the abundant life Jesus came to give. Mere existence is the only alternative. If you have accepted the gift of life, how does God know you are thankful? Going to church on Sunday is only a small part of it because God is just as interested in the rest of your week. You demonstrate your thankfulness by letting Him run your life. Think for a moment about the model for prayer that Jesus gave to His disciples in Matthew 6. He prayed, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

How is God’s will enacted in heaven? Completely. Perfectly. Absolutely. In heaven, everybody and everything conforms to the will of God. His will is everything—there is no other option. As you live out your destiny, God wants you to be so grateful to Him for His gift of life and His provision that you surrender your life to Him. When you give your life back to Him, He can give the greatest gift of all—the abundance found in living out your purpose. Nothing short of that will do. Surrender is the key to your destiny. It is the thing that will unlock all that God has in store for you. Surrender, and then hold on for the ride of your life! It’s going to be awesome.

Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. And begin, Lord, with me.
