Expectations

MATTHEW 25:31
When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.

Your expectations always affect your behavior. If you found out you were terminally ill and had only one year to live, I can guarantee you would rethink your choices. If you suddenly knew you would be gone in 12 months, certain things that used to be important wouldn’t be important anymore. You would want to right certain wrongs because your expectation of death would transform the way you function in life. The Bible refers to the return of Jesus Christ as the blessed hope (Titus 2:13). It is the great expectation of the church that time is not all there is, that eternity awaits us, and that God will lead us there. I believe many believers aren’t living a life of purpose because they’ve lost that blessed expectation.

Maybe you’re a bit like that. You may have lost sight of the prophetic Word of God, and as a result, you’ve lost direction and momentum in your daily life and your walk of faith. Choose to draw near to God again through His prophetic Word. We study eschatology, or end-times prophecy, so we can learn how to function while we await Christ’s return. As a member of the body of Christ, you are to provide a glimpse of eternity by fulfilling your destiny. You are a preview of the coming attraction! As you put your faith in God’s Word, you are bringing a little bit of heaven to the world around you while you wait for God’s kingdom to fill the earth.

Lord, I want to live in the light of Your prophetic Word and Your coming kingdom. Teach me how to live my life and fulfill my purpose in a way that advances Your overarching plan.
