Experiencing Faith
MATTHEW 17:20
Truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. Faith is not measured by how much you believe in what you believe. Faith is about believing that the One you believe in is believable. In fact, you can have all the faith in the world that your SUV is going to take off and fly you to Canada at 12,000 feet, but you’ll still be stuck in traffic with all four wheels firmly on the ground. How can you find out whether the One you believe in is believable? By knowing and experiencing Him. Picture a child climbing up on her daddy’s back for a piggyback ride. She doesn’t ask herself whether he can hold her or if he is going to drop her. She simply asks, “Do you have me?” as she wiggles and adjusts her legs into place. By asking her daddy, “Do you have me?” she is affirming her confidence that he is trustworthy. When he says, “Yes, I have you” and they enjoy a safe ride, she will have even more confidence in him the next time.
But what if she is unsure her daddy will keep her safe? She can say all day long that she believes he can carry her, but saying it a thousand times won’t reduce the hesitation she feels. She will never experience the full pleasure of his presence until she takes that first climb of faith and discovers that he is more than able to support her. Faith becomes real when it is experienced. Saying you believe God has you on your path of destiny is easy. Feeling like you believe is also easy. But faith is not based on your feelings. Faith is experienced in your feet. That’s why the Bible calls it “walking by faith” rather than “feeling by faith.” Demonstrate your faith by taking action to live out your destiny. Take God seriously. Hold Him accountable to His Word. Discover all the promises He has in store for you, and then receive them by believing that what God says is true.
Dear God, increase my faith so I can see mountains move. Make me an instrument of faith that reflects Your truth as I journey toward the fulfillment of my destiny.
