Seeking Without Striving

PSALM 46:10
Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

One of the greatest benefits that arises out of a close relationship with our heavenly Father is that He will guide, direct, and prepare us to experience the purpose He has for our lives. When you truly embrace the principle expressed in the verse above, you will experience the abundant joy that Christ has promised you. You will no longer be straining and striving to see if this plan will work, or if this relationship will work, or if this job will work, or if this path will work. When you know that God is God—and you seek to get close to Him—He will show you your path and your purpose. If you want to experience God’s purpose for your life, experience God. Don’t go looking for His will; look for Him. In close, abiding intimacy with the Father, you will discover and live out the destiny He has purposed for you. When you seek Him first, God takes responsibility to provide all you need for whatever He wants you to do (Matthew 6:33). You won’t have to break your neck to get it. You won’t have to wear yourself out trying to accomplish it. God will flow it naturally to you because, after all, He will receive the glory.

God doesn’t mind picking up the tab to bring your destiny your way when He knows that you will do it no matter what and He will get the glory. As you continue this journey of destiny, you have a daily decision to make. For whose glory will you live? Will you live for your name, your reputation, your recognition, your exaltation, and your 15 minutes of fame? Because if that’s what you want, that’s what you’ll get, and trust me—15 minutes of fame is still only 15 minutes in light of eternity. It’s not going to last that long. Or are you going to live for the eternal King, who rules over an eternal kingdom? His destiny for you includes and benefits you, but it has been designed to advance His kingdom on earth, bless others, and reflect His greatest glory.

Lord, I rest in Your presence as I make You the highest priority in my life. As I choose each day to do this one thing—to put You first—I know that You will always provide what I need to carry out my purpose.
