A Reflection Of Glory

ISAIAH 43:7
Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made.

One great thing about fulfilling your destiny is getting to share the glory of God. As you live out your destiny, you reflect the glory of God to those around you. Whatever you think about God, He is much more than that and then some. God displays His glory in creation, but even the universe can’t match the glory of God. Keep in mind that the earth makes up only a small portion of creation. God created a universe so big and beautiful and detailed that mankind cannot even comprehend it. In fact, scientists now say the universe is expanding—making it even more difficult to understand its makeup and structure. And God is even more than that. Everything God created recognizes His glory except for two things: the forces of hell, and mankind. The apostle Paul writes, “Since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). Paul also says, “From Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen” (Romans 11:36). God spoke these words through the prophet Isaiah: “Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made” (Isaiah 43:7).

Many people do not know their purpose because they have missed the fundamental premise that life is not about them. It’s about Him. God says, “I have created you for My glory.” He created you to be the television set or the radio station that transmits the picture and the voice of His invisible attributes. He created you to reflect Him. As you go about your day—always keep God’s glory in the forefront of your mind. If you ever wonder if you’re on the right track, ask yourself, “Is what I’m doing reflecting God’s glory?” You have been made in the image of God, and His purpose for you is to broadcast that image to those around you. Lord, Your glory is revealed in Your creation. What You have made reflects Your perfection and order. Humanity has only begun to understand a small fraction of how complex the world and universe is, and yet You give me the honor of reflecting Your glory in all that I do. Thank You for this, Lord, and may I do it well. The Cost of Glory Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory.” EXODUS 33:18 We glorify God by accomplishing what He tells us to do and not simply what we want to do. Jesus says, “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do” (John 17:4). Glorifying God is directly connected to the fulfilling of your destiny. Not every day of your destiny is going to be rainbows and unicorns. Some days will be tough and will require sacrifice. When God called me to serve the Dallas Cowboys as their chaplain during the height of the Tom Landry years, I gave Him glory by doing the work He had given me to do. But doing that work didn’t cost me anything personally. In fact, I was more than happy to do it. I loved that assignment. The tricky part is to give God glory by doing what He has asked you to do when it costs you something, such as your freedom, your personal wants, your comfort, or your pride. As Jesus was preparing to be taken to the cross and crucified for the sins of all mankind, He said something very revealing about how we are to glorify God. “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name” (John 12:27-28). Jesus didn’t mince words or sugarcoat His feelings. His soul was troubled. Jesus wanted to ask God to save Him from this hour. He hoped God would not make Him go through what was about to happen. But then He turned it all around because what He was about to experience was directly tied to His purpose and God’s glory. “Go ahead, God,” Jesus said, “because this is why I came. Glorify Your name.” Even though Jesus wanted a way out, He finished the work He had been sent to do because He knew that in His purpose—in fulfilling the work God had intended for Him, however painful it was—He was bringing glory to God.
Dear God, give me the grace to do the difficult things that come as part of my destiny. Help me to feel Your nearness, especially in those difficult times, so that I will find comfort and strength to endure and fulfill my purpose—all for Your glory.
