The Truth

JOHN 8:32
You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.

People often want objective standards. Imagine laying on an operating table in your last few moments of consciousness and hearing your surgeon say, “Hmm… I think this is where I need to cut. Other doctors have ideas of where to cut, but this is what I think. Let’s just check it out and see what happens.” Would you trust that doctor? Or suppose your pharmacist said, “Let’s see… I think this is the medicine you should take. The pharmacist down the street disagrees, but this is what I think. Why don’t you just give it a try?” Or picture yourself boarding a plane and hearing the pilot say, “Um… I think this is the button I’m supposed to push. My engineer thinks I ought to push this button on the left, and my copilot thinks I should push a button over here on the right. The flight attendant thinks I should push a different one. Well… let’s try this button and see if it gets us off the ground.” That wouldn’t be good enough, would it? At the doctor’s office, you want truth. At the pharmacist’s, you want truth. In the airplane, you want truth. You don’t want a pilot saying, “I think…” or a doctor saying, “I have a pretty good idea…” or a pharmacist saying, “I have a hunch.” You want these people to know for sure. Everyone wants their doctor or pharmacist or pilot to tell them the truth, yet many people seem unconcerned about knowing God’s truth. His truth—the absolute standard of reality found in His Word—is all you need in order to discover and fully live out your destiny. The truth of God is the foundation of your life. Read His Word. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Know it. Apply it. Then watch it bear fruit as you live out the purpose He has for you. Lord, thank You for being a God of truth and for never changing like a shifting shadow.

Thank You for being fully and completely trustworthy. Your Word is truth, and it is a lamp for my feet. I praise You for making this available to me and for giving me such an enormous treasure—Your Word. Deep Cleansing Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. ROMANS 8:1 Just before I go to the dentist, I make sure to do an especially good job of brushing my teeth. I spend extra time scrubbing and flossing to make a good impression with the dentist. The problem is, my dentist is rarely impressed by my efforts that day. He’s not satisfied with one good brushing or one careful flossing. He looks deeper. He takes X-rays of my teeth and then uses special tools to clean between them. Consequently, he finds stuff I never even knew was there. I thought I had taken care of everything on my own, but the dentist finds things I missed. That’s because he operates on a different standard. I could brush my teeth all day long, but if I don’t have a way to reach down deep, there will still be problems. The Bible declares that on even our best days, we’ve still got stuff between our teeth. Even on our best days, we don’t come close to satisfying the demands of a holy God. That’s why God’s mercy and grace are so important. Until you accept these two things from God in your life, you will delay your destiny and get bogged down in emotions of regret, doubt, shame, and more. Yet God’s mercy through the blood of Christ covers your sins. It covers your past. Your mistakes do not need to keep you from fully living out your destiny. You are bigger than your mistakes. You are a child of the King, fully cleansed by the blood of your loving heavenly Father’s perfect sacrifice in His Son. Is anything in your life keeping you from believing you can live out your destiny? Let it go, and walk confidently in the calling of your King. He has you covered. Learn from your past, but don’t live in it. It’s a new day, and it’s time to move on.

Father, thank You for Your grace and Your mercy. Thank You for covering my sins with the blood of Jesus Christ and for giving me the opportunity to fully live out the plan You have for me.
