The Report From Above

ISAIAH 55:9
As the heavens are higher than the earth, are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Urban commuters often check traffic reports before they head out onto the roads to go to work. The reports let them know which freeways are clogged up, which routes are best to take, and how much time they need to reach their destination. Many traffic reports are given from helicopters. A reporter looks down at the whole situation and gives real-time direction to drivers so they know how to proceed. Drivers could say, “I’m not going to listen to the traffic report. I’m going to take my chances.” The problem is, if they get stuck in traffic, they won’t be able to see what’s going on. All they will see is a long line of cars. Now, which is better? Does it make more sense to try making the traffic decision on your own and risk getting stuck, or does it make more sense to follow the instructions from a traffic reporter in a helicopter?

Of course, listening to the reporter makes more sense because he or she is high overhead and can see the big picture. The same is true for living out your destiny. From God’s vantage point, He sees it all—the beginning, the middle, and the end. He knows where all the roads go, which ones will lead to setbacks, and which ones can get you to your destination the fastest. In fact, God knows some shortcuts or detours that will get you to your destiny quicker than you even imagined. Do you want to try figuring out all of this on your own? Or will you seek His heart and His hand by spending time reading His Word and communing with His Holy Spirit? The latter will get you to the full manifestation of your destiny faster than anything else ever could.

Gracious and all-knowing God, Your ways are higher than my ways—they go beyond my understanding. I pray that I will follow You rather than my own inclinations in all I do.
