Let Go
ISAIAH 53:7
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.
The story is told about a man who was collecting eggs from a nest on the side of a very steep cliff. As he carefully approached the nest, he slipped and started to slide over the edge of the cliff. At the last second, he was able to grab a branch and stop his plunge to the valley below. Dangled over the precipice, hundreds of feet in the air, he screamed, “Help me! Somebody help me!” A voice came out of the sky, “Do you believe I can help you?” The man responded, “Yes, I believe. Please help me!” The voice came out of the sky again. “Do you believe I have the power to help you?” “Yes, I believe! I believe! Please help me!” “Do you believe I love you enough to help you?” “Yes, I know You love me. Please, oh please, HELP ME!” “Because you believe, I will help you. Now let go.” After a brief silence, the man said, “Is there anybody else up there?” God doesn’t always make sense, does He? Throughout Scripture and church history, He has asked people to do things that don’t make sense—such as let go of whatever they were holding on to for dear life.
He asked Abraham to let go of Isaac and the promise of a blessed generation. He asked Ruth to let go of familiarity and her homeland in exchange for the unknown. He asked Joseph to let go of judgment and suspicion when Mary became pregnant. God may be asking you to let go of something you hold dear—a person, a job, or perhaps a mindset—because He knows in letting go, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate great faith. And great faith always produces a great return. Is God prompting you to trust Him with something today? Letting go may be the very thing that will take you to the next step toward your destiny.
Jesus, thank You for Your example of letting go and trusting Your Father. In the face of great pain and separation, You did not complain. At the cross, You let go of Your own wants and desires and submitted Yourself to God. May I have the grace to let go of whatever I am clinging to—without complaining and with a heart full of love for You.
