Life In The Clouds
PSALM 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
One day while flying his plane, a pilot noticed a small cloud up ahead. He decided to just fly through it. But once he got inside the cloud, he realized it wasn’t as small as he had thought. He decided to pull up and out of it, but after gaining quite a bit of altitude, he still wasn’t in the clear. Next he decided to descend, confident the cloud didn’t reach all the way to the ground. Again, no luck. With all of his maneuvering, the pilot began to get a little disoriented. Sweat began pouring down his face because without any landmarks, he wasn’t confident of his position. He started to feel upside down. He checked his instruments, and they confirmed that the plane was still right side up. He felt as if the plane had tipped over, but the instruments said the opposite. The pilot made a decision to believe the instruments instead of his feelings. It took all of his energy to believe the instruments were functioning properly and telling him the truth.
Finally, he emerged from the cloud not far from the ground, because the cloud was low. When he came out, he was right side up. Had he believed what he felt, he would have been dead, but he acted on what the instruments said and not on his feelings. Our emotions and feelings will often lead us into defeat, but the Word of God is an instrument that gives solid guidance and direction we can count on. Always adjust your feelings to your faith. Align your emotions with the truth of God’s Word, and you will be on your way to fully living out the purpose God has for you.
Dear God, thank You for my emotions because they are an indicator of what I am thinking. When my thoughts are not aligned with Your Word, I am likely to worry, be afraid, or make rash decisions based on my feelings. I want to adjust my thoughts to Your Word, which will then adjust my feelings.
