A Doctor Of Destiny
1 PETER 2:9
You are A CHOSEN RACE, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Dr. Kenneth Cooper, the father of aerobics, was recognized at Harvard University with the Healthy Cup Award for “his dedication to understanding the scientific link between exercise and good health.”* Dr. Cooper also happens to be my doctor. I was sitting in his office one day, listening to him fuss at me like he normally does, when he began to tell me how his dream of creating a place that promotes preventative medicine through good health and fitness came into being. “People think this is my job, Tony,” he said. “They don’t understand that this is my calling.” Dr. Cooper went on to tell me he is not a medical doctor simply because he enjoys medicine. He said he chose to be a medical doctor because he was called by God to work in medicine. Medicine is his ministry. Roughly only 100,000 people jogged regularly when Dr. Cooper first published his bestselling book Aerobics—introducing not only the word but also the concept into American culture. Now, five decades later, that number exceeds 30 million.
That is 30 million lives that are being strengthened and will have a better opportunity to fulfill their destinies. God is using Dr. Cooper’s calling in connection with countless other people’s destinies as well. His piece is part of a larger puzzle. And while Dr. Cooper’s puzzle piece may seem significant due to his widespread influence, every person has a purpose to fulfill that is linked to God’s greater goal. That includes you, and the sooner you get to fulfilling that purpose, the sooner everyone else will benefit from your contribution to life. What is holding you back? It’s time to move forward at full speed because God created you to do something that will bring you satisfaction and will empower others for good.
Whatever is holding me back from fully pursuing my purpose, Lord, I ask that You will help me to remove it or remove it for me. I want to do what You have put me on earth to do. I know that will bring me my greatest satisfaction and will bring good to others.
