Maps

PROVERBS 3:6
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

I have an app on my iPhone called Maps. I can type two locations in Maps, and it will instantly display a route for me to follow to get from one place to the other. However, if I opened up Maps and typed in “Current Location” for my starting point but nothing for the intended destination, the app would not give me a response when I pushed the button labeled “Route.” Without a destination, the “Route” button cannot respond with directions.

This is because Maps cannot provide me with a route if I do not tell it where I am planning to go. If you do not know where you are headed, you cannot know the route to get there. Rather than going through life with an intended destination, you will bounce here or there like a ball in a pinball machine. You will be left trying this, that, and the other direction… hopeful that one option will lead somewhere good. Rather than taking the straightest path to your destiny, you will meander. And as you surely know, a lot of time can be wasted by meandering.

When we live without a clear sense of direction, we struggle to know which decisions are most important and how to make them. Life is filled with ambiguity. Should you take that job? Should you move there? Should you date that person or marry that one? Should you volunteer in that capacity? Should you spend your time in that manner? Direction matters, and knowing your intended destination will help you know how to answer the questions that will arise on your journey. Without clear direction, life is hit-and-miss.

Father, I don’t want to waste any more of my time meandering. I acknowledge You as my leader and my God. You are my guide, leading me on the path of my destiny. Show me the steps I am to take and help me to joyfully follow You each step of the way.
