The Value Of Sand

EPHESIANS 1:5
He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will.

Sand is cheap. In fact, at the beach, it’s free. You can scoop up as much as you want, build a sand castle, bury yourself halfway, and no one is going to charge you a thing. After all, it’s just sand, right? Yet once sand is bagged to put it on a playground, it begins to increase in its value. You now have to pay something in order to use it. What used to be free on the beach now costs you several dollars for a 25-pound bag. Go a step further and glue that sand to a piece of paper in order to make sandpaper, and its value per square inch has gone up even higher.

Its value has increased because its purpose has been changed. The major constituent of sand is silica. When it is heated and processed, it becomes an intricate part of a computer chip that could be worth thousands of dollars. So what was once free on the beach now has value because it is in a bag, because it is glued on a piece of paper, or because it is in a computer chip. The sand is the same, but it has found increased value in a greater purpose. If you have not yet fully discovered your destiny, you may look around at your life and ask yourself what value there is in the things you are doing. They may be noble things, and they are probably responsible things, but when they are not tied to your eternal destiny, they have little long-term meaning.

Pursue your destiny with passion and expediency because when you discover the eternal impact of your actions, you will sense that you have greater value than you realized. You won’t have changed, and perhaps even the nuts and bolts of what you are doing won’t have changed, but when you consider the eternal impact of your actions, you become more aware of their value. This will inspire you to approach each day with a new zest and vigor because you know the true value of your life.

Loving heavenly Father, You have predestined me for a purpose that is even greater than myself. It involves an eternal impact that I am to make on the lives of those with whom I come into contact. Show me my true value. Help me to see myself as You see me
