Who Are You?

JOHN 1:12
As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.

Many people today are running here and there, trying to find themselves. This search is meaningless. If you don’t know who you are, how do you know what to look for? And how do you know when you have found you, since you don’t know what you are looking for? Toasters don’t find themselves. Refrigerators don’t find themselves. Appliances don’t find themselves, because their purpose has been assigned by another. A toaster doesn’t have to find its reason for being; it just does what the manufacturer made it to do. As a Christian, you don’t have to look for yourself.

God has already given you a destiny—a divine reason for being. Your purpose is to fulfill it. If you are not fulfilling His purpose in your life, you might watch more television, shop for more things, hang out with more friends, and try to get a better job, and yet your life will still feel empty because you are disconnected from God’s purpose for your life. Not only that, but you won’t feel valuable because you won’t be satisfying your deep desire to fulfill your destiny. Without living out your destiny, you are settling for less than you are truly worth.

If a person walks around with a hundred dollars in her pocket but never uses it for what it was intended for, that hundred-dollar bill is just a piece of paper. It’s valuable paper, but it’s meaningless until utilized for its purchasing power. Similarly, God has assigned value to you. But until you live out your life for the purposes He intended, you will be trapped in a meaningless existence—holding on to intended value but not using it.

Lord, I recognize that You have placed great value in my life simply by my creation and calling. I don’t want to waste the talents, ideas, love, and abilities You have given me. Give me wisdom to live my life to its fullest, truly manifesting every intended result You have destined for me.
