Motivation In The Mundane

HABAKKUK 2: 3
The vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.

One of the reasons so many of us are unfulfilled is that we are driving in the wrong lane. We operate in lanes of life that were never intended for us. We operate in purposes that were never designed for us. All exits are good exits, but not all exits are your exits. We don’t get off at an exit for no good reason when we are driving. We decide to get off at an exit because it will take us to our intended destination. We take the exit that will lead us to where we are supposed to go. Many people miss their purpose because they take any old exit that comes along. We should only take an exit that takes us toward our destiny, our purpose, or our calling. And one of the ways to know which exit to take is to combine our vision with our passion.

If there is something on your heart that burdens you or evokes strong emotions, before you try to talk yourself out of it or to rationalize it, ask God if this is a clue to your vision and your destiny. Most likely it is. Passion and vision are two things God gives you in order to motivate you for a sustained calling. Once you jump into your purpose and start on the path toward your destiny, you will discover that every day is not a skip down the yellow brick road. Each hour doesn’t come with fireworks and rainbows or exciting adventures to explore and conquer. Along anyone’s path to their destiny, there will be many dull moments and a lot of plain hard work. Passion and vision are gifts from God to strengthen you and motivate you through those times. They are critical to you fulfilling your destiny because they are the breath, or the wind, that gives you wings to soar and strength to keep going in the midst of the tedious and the mundane. Living a life of destiny doesn’t mean that every moment will be filled with bells and trumpets. It means that your passion and your vision will often have to carry you through the important but not-so-exciting activities so that you will arrive at your intended destination.

Father, I want to honor You with all that I do, even the things in my life that seem boring and mundane. Help me to be motivated to do these things by connecting them to my purpose, my destiny, and the vision You have given to me.
