Sneakers
HEBREWS 12: 1
Since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
When I grew up, I often wore tennis shoes. They were also called sneakers back then, and like other kids, I used one pair for everything. I played basketball in them, went to school in them, and ran in them. Whatever I did, I did with my sneakers. They were made by Converse or Adidas or Reebok…and then Nike came along. Today people buy designer tennis shoes that cost an arm and a leg. On top of that, we now have a different kind of tennis shoe for every sport. You can’t just run and walk in the same shoe; you have to have a different kind of shoe for each activity. Why are running shoes different from walking shoes? The reason is that each shoe is specialized and crafted to fulfill a specific purpose. In the same way, God has crafted every single believer according to where He wants you to take Him and to carry out His purposes. He crafted you with a specific reason in mind. He has a plan for you to be a part of—a plan that is bigger than you but includes you. It is broader than you, but you are an essential piece in carrying it out.
God is the master planner and has constructed each of us in such a way that when He merges our destinies together, He accomplishes His overarching goal—advancing His kingdom on earth—in the most effective manner. You aren’t just any ordinary tennis shoe. You are special, uniquely designed on purpose and for a purpose. Live out your purpose, hone your skills, focus your attention, and accomplish all that God has in store for you.
Father, help me to run the race set before me according to where You want me to go. Show me the steps to take and the path to follow, and cause me to embrace the unique qualities You have built into me.
