Our Power Source

JOHN 15:5
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Sometimes Christians look at other Christians and say, “I wish I could be as spiritual as they are,” or “I wish I could do something as exciting and important as they do.” But every believer needs to understand that we all find our identity in Christ and we all have the same source—God. So if someone seems to be progressing in their spiritual walk faster than you, they may be living in light of who they are while you are not.

They may be tapping into God, our source, on a more regular basis through ongoing thoughts of surrender and gratitude. In my kitchen, I have a toaster, a can opener, a microwave, and a refrigerator. They are all different appliances, but they work from the same power source. When I plug them in, the can opener opens the cans, the refrigerator keeps food cold, the microwave heats it, and the toaster toasts it. Each appliance is different, but it lives up to its manufactured specifications because each appliance is receiving power from the same source. Even though I am different from you and you are different from me, all of us have the same potential to live up to God’s ideal for us.

You can be what God created you to be, and I can be what God created me to be because the same power current is available to all of us in the body of Christ. It’s available to all who belong to God. God has the perfect destiny for you, but you must know who you are in Him and tap into His wisdom and power through an ongoing abiding relationship with Him.

Lord, make my life a living testimony of Your power flowing through me. I understand that this means I need to make abiding with You a priority in my life. When I get busy, remind me to slow down and meditate on Your presence. Show me ways I can abide with You throughout my day, whether that be through listening to songs that glorify You, reading Your Word, thinking about You, or communicating with You about everything. Increase my awareness of You, Lord, so I can abide more."
