TAKING GOD SERIOUSLY

Psalm 128:1–2
How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you.

When your personal life is in line under God, blessing will flow out of you into your home, your church, and your community. But it all starts with you and me personally. Psalm 128 verses 1 and 2 tell us, “How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you.” “How blessed” means how happy is the person who fears the Lord. To fear God simply means to take Him seriously. It has to do with holding God in awe and reverence. It means God is not to be marginalized, discounted, or put on the outskirts of life. Rather, He must be at the center of your existence. What happens when you fear God? He will take care of your fortune: “You shall eat of the fruit of your hands” (Psalm 128:2a).

He will take care of your feelings: “You will be happy” (v. 2b). And He will take care of your future: “It will be well with you” (v. 2c). But we live in a culture that does not take God seriously. Most people keep God at a distance, never bringing all of their lives under Him. You may say, “I want to live my life under God. How can I know whether I am doing it or not?” The psalmist answered that question in verse You live life under God when you take Him seriously and you walk in His ways. You live under God when doing what He wants done is your goal and the pattern of your life.

REFLECTION: How can you be careful to live your life under God? What does He ask of you in your life roles? How has He blessed you? You have said that I will be blessed if I fear You, Lord, and I want to thank You for this promise from You because You keep Your Word. You are an awesome and mighty God.
